Female Dog aged 23 weeks.
Thoughtful, gentle and wonderfully easy-going, Maple likes to take in the world before deciding exactly how she'd like to join it.
Maple is a young Boxer cross with a calm nature, a clever little mind and just the right amount of puppy mischief.
While some puppies approach life at full speed and ask questions later, Maple prefers to assess the situation first. She'll stop, watch what's happening and take it all in before deciding it's time to get involved.
And once she does? She's still very much a puppy.
She loves to play, explore and join in with the fun, but she's not usually the one bringing absolute chaos to the room. There's a lovely steadiness about Maple already — she's playful without being over-the-top and seems quite happy doing things at her own pace.
She's also proving to be a clever little girl who enjoys learning and is making great progress as she settles into foster life.
Living With Maple:
Maple is currently fostered near Rotorua, where she's getting a fantastic introduction to family life.
She's living happily alongside children, other dogs and cats, and also shares her foster environment with chickens and ducks. She's doing really well with them all, although as with any young puppy, continued supervision and training around smaller animals will be important as she grows.
Her calmer nature doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy a good play. Maple happily gets involved with the other dogs and would be comfortable sharing her future home with a friendly canine companion.
She's also learning all the practical stuff that comes with being a puppy. Her basic manners are underway, she's settling into a routine and crate training is improving all the time.
There will still be plenty to learn — but Maple seems to genuinely enjoy figuring things out.
Maple's Perfect Home:
Maple would be a lovely match for a family looking for a puppy with a slightly more easy-going approach to life.
She'd love people who will include her in everyday family life, give her plenty of opportunities to play and explore, and continue introducing her positively to new people, places and experiences.
She could happily live with another friendly dog and is already doing well around children and cats.
Most importantly, Maple needs a family who understands that even the calmer puppy of the litter is still a puppy. She'll need time, patience, consistency and ongoing training as she grows into a medium-large adult dog.
In return, you'll get to watch that thoughtful little brain work everything out along the way.
A Few Things to Know:
Maple is still right at the beginning of figuring out who she's going to become. She's learning her basic manners, settling well into crate training and getting plenty of valuable socialisation in her foster home.
She's also entering the stage of life where chewing, jumping, toilet training and questionable puppy decisions all come with the territory. 😂
Her new family will need to continue building on the brilliant start her foster family has given her, with positive training, appropriate boundaries and plenty of opportunities to experience the world.
Maple's Future:
There's something really lovely about the way Maple approaches life.
She's not in a rush to be first through the door or the centre of every adventure. She likes to watch, think and then make her move — usually once she's decided the situation meets her approval.
But underneath that thoughtful little exterior is still a playful Boxer cross puppy ready for a lifetime of adventures.
With continued training, socialisation and a family willing to invest in her puppy years, Maple has every opportunity to grow into a wonderfully balanced, affectionate family companion.
🍁 For now, though, she'll keep quietly assessing the situation... before deciding whether it's worth interrupting her nap for.
